TSRA Clinical Scenarios 2.0

The TSRA Clinical Scenarios in Cardiothoracic Surgery app aims to enhance surgical education through a comprehensive collection of common surgical dilemmas encountered in general thoracic, adult cardiac, and congenital cardiac surgery. The application presents users with typical clinical scenarios paired with diagnostic and therapeutic options, and it further engages them with a series of “what if” scenarios designed to influence patient management strategies.

Users are encouraged to take detailed notes on each topic, which can be stored locally on their devices for future reference. Moreover, the app features a “Community Notes” section where users can share their insights; these notes can be commented on by peers, fostering collaboration and discussion. The TSRA envisions this feature as a “living document” to stimulate ongoing dialogue about complex surgical issues, although it explicitly prohibits notes and comments related to the oral ABTS examination.

Additionally, users have the opportunity to evaluate the quality of each chapter and bookmark select chapters as “Favorites” for ease of access.

The Thoracic Surgery Residents Association (TSRA) serves as a representative body for all residents training in cardiothoracic surgery throughout North America. In collaboration with the Thoracic Surgery Directors Association (TSDA), TSRA is committed to enhancing the quality of thoracic surgical education, ensuring that training is responsive to developments within the field, and facilitating innovative approaches to educational challenges.

It is important to note that TSRA resources are intended as foundational guidelines for studying cardiothoracic surgery and should be utilized alongside various other educational materials. These resources are not definitive study guides for either the TSDA In-Training Exam or the ABTS Certification Exam, and the TSRA makes no claims regarding their effectiveness in preparing for these assessments. As educational tools, TSRA resources should complement discussions with appropriate healthcare providers when making medical decisions.
